Vehicle tracking bill introduced in house?
A Member of Congress proposes to use taxpayer money to fund the development of technology to track motorists as part of a new form of taxation. US Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon) introduced H.R. 3311 earlier this year to appropriate 4,500,000 for research and study into the transition to a per-mile vehicle tax system.

There is no need for "development of technology". Other countries do this already. Singapore comes to mind as one that does this.
First off, we’re not going to be able to get away from being taxed. The trust that pays to repair transportation infrastructure cannot support itself any longer.
So the question is: Would I rather be taxed by the gallons of fuel I use or the miles I drive?
Well, on one hand if you have a vehicle that does not get good mileage, you probably would like to not pay taxes per gallon, but would rather pay per mile.
If, on the other hand, your vehicle gets great mileage, you’d probably rather pay taxes on each gallon of fuel purchased.
6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. The bottom line is that the trust is broke and needs an influx of cash. In a country that has and still is living beyond it’s means, you can expect heavy taxes – but that’s another topic.

Big Socialist government will stop at nothing to get into our wallets.

Free market enterprises have been tracking vehicle usage – mileage, location, max speeds, etc. – for years. Fleet operators (repair companies, taxi fleets, telco companies, car rental companies, vehicle insurance companies, etc). Does that bother you as well?

Sounds like more tea parties ahead. When will these people realize that good, honest, hard working people are not going to stand for them to turn us into cattle that they can track. Thanks for the post.
